Zwolle cultural discovery

Zwolle is a Hanseatic city with a rich culture and history, where you continually discover something new. The ambiance of the historical heart breathes culture. Everywhere traces of its rich past can be found. The historic gables, the city wall, the Sassenpoort, the Peperbus and the star-shaped moat are claims to that richness.

Culture? Say Zwolle!
Zwolle caters to a wide region regarding contemporary culture. Museums, theatres, cinemas, art galleries, a statue park and cultural events invite you to visit the city. There is something for everybody to enjoy.

Museums – from Palaces to Tiny Cellars
Museum De Fundatie (The Foundation Museum) is a museum for the fine arts and is housed in the former Palace of Justice. Het Stedelijk Museum (The City Museum) permanently displays magnificent period chambers and rotates themed exhibitions throughout the year. Zwolle also has three tiny, unique, nostalgic museums – the Sinterklaasmuseum (St Nicholas Museum), the Brillenmuseum (Museum of Spectacles) and the Stadsomroepersmuseum (Town Criers Museum), each housed in a snug cellar under a place of business.

Theatre and Dance
Zwolle offers a variety of possibilities for arts and culture, ranging from a grand theatre and a city theatre to a small storytellers theatre. Theatre De Spiegel is an imposing structure and the only one in the Netherlands with a movable ceiling, enhancing the acoustic qualities of the building. De Verhalenboot (The Storytellers Boat) and Poppodium Hedon (music venue) have a more intimate character. Various premises offer dance parties where you can drop in.

From Fietsjoe to the Peperbus to Water Tours
Zwolle is the place to be active. Tour with the bicycle cab Fietsjoe and enjoy sight seeing in a relaxed and environmentally friendly way. Climb the Peperbus Tower and experience a magnificent aerial view of the city. On the water you will see Zwolle in a different light. Take your pick: canoe, water bicycle, tour boat, sloop, flat-bottomed boat or steam-driven tugboat.
