Zwolle exciting events

Do you have any idea how many interesting and exciting events Zwolle hosts?
There is always something happening in Zwolle, whether it be on a cultural, leisure, musical or sports level. Those who like the latter type of event might enjoy the bicycle tour Star of Zwolle, each year in March. For those who prefer running, there is a half marathon in June, named after its sponsor Groene Land Achmea. Do you want to reach higher grounds? Then the Countus Hot Air Balloon Spectacle might be the thing for you. Zwolle swings: at the Bevrijdingsfestival (Liberation Festival) in May, during the Generation Classics Party and the Thorbeckegracht Festival. Add to that Zwolle’s festivals for fine arts and culture, such as the Street Theatre Festival Overijssel and the Waterval International Vertelfestival (International Storytellers Festival).



Special Markets

Bluefinger Days
A string of market stalls throughout the inner city, where shop owners and vendors promote their goods. Visitors can find good bargains. Children’s entertainment includes bouncy castles. On the many terraces one can enjoy a drink, something to eat or an ice-cream. The Bluefinger Days are held annually on each Wednesday in July. In 2012 that will be on the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th of the month.



Product Demonstration Competition
For more than 25 years Zwolle has been the décor of the stand-up comedians among the market vendors. During this festival, articles ranging from candy to medicine boxes are presented in a very entertaining way. Standwerken (product demonstration by a market vendor) is very popular in the Netherlands. Our country has 500 of these specialists and they contribute to the image of a local market in an important way. Street smarts, gift of the gab and entrepreneurial are their key words to success. The participants not only coax the stars down from heaven, but they also sell them! And they add so much to the fun at the market. The public decides annually who wins the prize for Best Standwerker. Book Market
The annual book market is held on the first Sunday in June. It enjoys national fame and is combined with extra activities in the the Stedelijk Museum (City Museum), the Bibliotheek Zwolle (Public Library) and the city centre. Searching for a unique book among the many bookstalls adds to a very special atmosphere on this day. If you wish, you can take a peek inside the City Museum at the Melkmarkt.
